The base for everything we do is the Kivelstadt Vineyard. Nestled in the hills 4.5 miles northwest of Glen Ellen, the vineyard’s volcanic shallow soils and steep terrain forces vines to struggle for nutrients and water. Of course, this struggle is the trademark of many of the greatest wines and vines in the world. Organically farmed by our team, this vineyard’s slopes are some of the most beautiful you will see in the world. We recently replanted a five-acre section that burned in 2017. From the ashes will come not only a return to our normal production levels, but Grenache, Mourvedre, and Gamay!
With focused care and joy in farming, Eco Terreno’s philosophies align completely with Kivelstadt’s. The vineyard represents the intrinsic flavors of Alexander Valley and the benefits of biodynamically farmed grapes. Eco Terreno’s farmers are committed to connecting people to the land. We were ecstatic when Sam found the 50-year-old vine Sauvignon Blanc that we work with. It is incredibly rare to find Sauvignon Blanc Vines this old!
This vineyard is our longest-running partner for a good reason. The Venturi family has been farming this vineyard for four generations, one of the original Mendocino families. The beautiful untamed vines of Venturi pay homage to traditional California farming (organic & never irrigated). The many acres of rolling Calpella hills make this one of the most breathtaking vineyards we get to spend time in. The vines are what originally brought us to this vineyard, but Larry Venturi the owner and operator has kept us there. He is truly inspiring and we are lucky to say that we count him as a friend and mentor.
