Now a unique and notoriously tannic varietal, Charbono was widely grown in early California in the North Coast. We were lucky to stumble on this 2 acre block of Charbono in Potter Valley, planted by Larry Venturi's father just after World War II. Semi-carbonic maceration kept the tannins light, giving the wine a lift that plays well with its richness. Bright and balanced, the wine explodes out of the glass with pure expression.
